ASSESSMENT INFORMATION

PSYCHOEDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENTS

Our psychoeducational assessments can provide important clarity in understanding diverse learning styles and any issues affecting school, home or work. Furthermore, they can be used to pursue disability benefits or accommodations at school or work. They can also bring great insight to our Patients and their families to understand the unique way they are wired and what can bring out their very best.

Our customized psychoeducational assessments are tailored to evaluate the various learningstyles or processing differences that may impact a person’s effectiveness at school, work, and in day-to-day functioning. This may include:

Giftedness
ADHD
Autism
Learning disabilities
Intellectual disabilities
Cognitive abilities
Adaptive functioning
Behavioural/emotional issues
Mental health issues

We are known for the quality and accuracy of our reports and the comprehensive, practical recommendations we provide parents and educators. This can often clear up any confusion or even misdiagnosis and can provide useful accommodations or next steps that will help our Patients advocate for themselves or their children, so that they are given the best opportunity to do their best.

*Please note that full psychoeducational assessments can only be offered to those aged 6 & older. However, we can still provide a toddler screening for those interested which still tests for ADHD and/or autism. Connect with our administrator for further details regarding this option.*

Lastly, we ask that you check your work health insurance plan to see if you have coverage for psychological services by a registered psychologist. Many plans will cover most of the cost of an assessment.

Process for a Full PE Assessment

1. Before You Begin: A member of our administrative team will contact you with instructions on how to set up your account on our booking system (please set up the account under the Patient being assessed) to schedule the initial consultation for assessment.

2. Consent and Intake Form: You will be sent an online Consent and Intake Form to provide us with some basic information before we get started. For Minors, the Consent is to be signed by their parent/guardian before this appointment. If separated/divorced parents have a custodial agreement, both parents need to sign the consent. We also need the signed consent of any kids over 12 giving us permission to provide their parents with access to the assessment results.

3. Initial Consultation for Assessment and Scheduling (Online): The initial online consultation for this assessment is approximately 30 minutes in duration and is completed with a senior member of our assessment team. For kids under 12, only their parent(s) or guardian(s) need to attend this meeting. Information regarding the Patient’s background including academic history, family and social functioning, physical and mental health and general well-being is collected during this consultation that will help inform the assessment.

4. Initial Invoicing: Should you decide to proceed with the assessment at this point, you will be billed 50% of the total cost. Once payment is received, you will receive further instructions to book testing appointments and identify who will be completing the questionnaires. For a psychoeducational assessment, you will typically need 4 appointments altogether, including the initial consultation for assessment (online), 2 assessment visits (in person), and feedback session (online). This will vary if you choose any “add-on” diagnostic assessments.

5. Data Collection Completed Online: Self and informant report questionnaires consistent with the determined assessment battery will be sent to the Patient (if over 14 years old) and Informants to complete online (e.g., a child’s parent and teacher may be informants).

6. Assessment Visits: Assessment protocol is multi-method including any of the following: self and informant reports, computer-based tests, paper-and-pencil tests, manipulation of physical test materials, structured and unstructured interview, and clinical observation. Testing measures will vary depending on the presenting problems being queried, to ensure adequate data collection. Each in-person appointment will be approximately 2 hrs.

7. Report Preparation: Members of the assessment team involved in the interviewing, testing, and/or observation of the Patient’s assessment will collaborate to provide a written report summarizing the test results and/or diagnoses, and recommendations for environment appropriate accommodations and/or treatment planning.

8. Patient and Guardian Online Feedback: Dr. Lin will meet with the Patient and/or their parent(s)/guardian(s) for a 30-minute online feedback session, to communicate any relevant diagnoses. In most cases, if the child being assessed is 12 years or older, it is encouraged that they attend the feedback session (unless it has been decided otherwise by their parents and Dr. Lin).

9. Final Invoicing: The remainder of the assessment cost will be invoiced at this point. Once payment is made, the diagnostic report will be sent out in a password protected link via email.

10. Resources & Referrals: Following the assessment, we are happy to offer resources to support our Patient with their results/diagnoses. This includes referrals to our trusted network for next steps or coaching. Additional fees to be paid directly to the service provider.

SPECIALIZED DIAGNOSTIC ASSESSMENTS

Diagnostic assessments can provide important clarity in deciding on treatment options. Furthermore, they can be used to pursue disability benefits or accommodations at school or work. They can also bring great insight to our patients and their families to understand the unique way they are wired and what can bring out their very best. This process is for those patients who want to pursue only one type of diagnostic clarification, such as ADHD, Autism, PTSD or other mental health issues (such as depression, anxiety, etc). In this streamlined assessment, we focus only on the diagnosis in question, allowing for a quicker process and lower costs.
